Attorney General Alan Wilson joins 23-state coalition urging Senate to confirm Ed Martin as U.S. Attorney for D.C.

(COLUMBIA, S.C.)鈥疶oday, 播播影院 General Alan Wilson joined 22 fellow attorneys general in urging the U.S. Senate to swiftly confirm Edward R. Martin Jr. as the permanent United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. In a joint letter to Senate leadership and the Judiciary Committee, the coalition expressed strong support for President Trump鈥檚 nominee, citing Martin鈥檚 proven track record, conservative values, and aggressive restoration of law and order in the nation鈥檚 capital.

鈥淲ashington, D.C. is broken, and Ed Martin is fixing it,鈥 said Attorney General Wilson. 鈥淚n just a few short months, Mr. Martin has delivered real results: violent crime is down, prosecutions are up, and politicized lawfare is being replaced with the rule of law. The American people, and the people of South Carolina, deserve a U.S. Attorney in D.C. who puts public safety and equal justice first.鈥

The letter highlights Martin鈥檚 leadership since being appointed interim U.S. Attorney in January 2025. Under his direction, the D.C. office has cracked down on violent gangs, disrupted Hamas terror financing operations, indicted Chinese cybercriminals, and rooted out government corruption, all while increasing prosecutions and seeking tougher sentences for violent offenders. The result: a 25% drop in violent crime across the District.

Attorney General Wilson and his fellow signatories also pointed to Martin鈥檚 commitment to depoliticizing the office after years of weaponized prosecutions under the previous administration. 鈥淭he U.S. Attorney鈥檚 Office in D.C. had become ground zero for political prosecution. Ed Martin is restoring credibility and fairness,鈥 Wilson added.

In the letter, the attorneys general also pushed back on partisan attacks against Martin鈥檚 nomination. 鈥淪enate Democrats are already smearing Mr. Martin with the same tired playbook they鈥檝e used against conservative nominees for years. But the facts are clear, Mr. Martin is the right person for this job, and it鈥檚 time for the Senate to confirm him.鈥
